Things that Keep Us Away

Daily Holy Spirit with Father Dave Pivonka

Hello. I'm Father Dave Pivonka, and welcome to Hallow. Take a moment and ask for God's Holy Spirit to be present to you. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy spirit. Amen? Amen. Jesus, our deepest desire is to be with you in heaven. One day to gaze on you, to be with the father where there is no more tears, no more mourning, no weeping. I love in the canon at mass on reconciliation. It says to be in the halls of heaven saints among saints. Today we're gonna pray. We're gonna pray against those things that might keep us away from you, might keep us away from your kingdom. It's pretty simple actually. We can live by the flesh or we can live by the Holy Spirit. In Galatians, Paul says the works of the flesh are obvious. The signs are immorality, impurity, licentiousness, adultery, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissension, factions, occasions of envy, drunken bouts, and orgies. This is an important list for us to be able to pay attention to, especially given what Paul says next. He says, I warn you, as I've warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Paul makes it very clear. There's a kingdom of God and there's a kingdom of the world or the kingdom of the flesh or the kingdom of the evil one. And if we live in a manner that our life is basically producing just spirits of the flesh, fruits of the flesh, we will not inherit the kingdom of God. I mean, this is this is a hard word and and it's one of the things that's at times it's difficult to preach on, but it's important that we reflect on this. Paul says very clear, your life is gonna produce fruit. It's either gonna produce fruit of the spirit or fruit of the flesh. And if your life is predominantly creating and bringing forth fruits of the flesh, you will not inherit the kingdom of God. I actually appreciate how direct Paul is. If these attributes basically describe the way we're living, we may not inherit the kingdom of God. Now that's not to say that that everyone fails or at one time or another that that we never get angry or or even perhaps that we never have too much to drink or or at one time or another, maybe you are impure. Right? But if these are the consistent and we're not trying to turn away from them, we're not trying to be closer to the spirit that produces fruit of the spirit rather than the fruits of flesh, he says then then honestly your salvation may be in jeopardy. We need the holy spirit to be more active in our life that we bear fruit of the spirit rather than fruit of the flesh. Yeah. That's that's at the heart of it. What Paul is saying is we need more spirit in our life to produce great fruit. God desires that our life brings forth fruit in our relationship with him. So let's pray for that. Come holy spirit. Jesus, come with your spirit upon us. May we be filled with the holy spirit so that our life would produce good fruit. Free us, Lord, from the slavery to the things of the world. Free me from the control of flesh that causes me to act in a manner that's not of you. It's not how we wanna live. Come with your holy spirit. Free us from the sins of the flesh, from anger and impurity and immorality and jealousy in Jesus' name. And as the priest of Jesus, free us from those vices. Come with your Holy Spirit. Bring forth fruit that is good, just attractive, but is holy. Come holy spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O God who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift of the same spirit, we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in its consolation through Christ our Lord. Amen. Amen. I'm father Dave Pavankar reminding you that the holy spirit is alive in you and encouraging you to live in a manner today that reflects this amazing reality. May God bless you, the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Amen? Amen.
